Our Attainable Spiritual Goals for 2022

What "attainable spiritual goals" should we have as disciples of Jesus Christ - the Body of Christ?

We all have goals in our personal and professional lives, and yet our goals as disciples of Jesus Christ are quite different and affect those personal and professional goals. For this study, we will use this definition for the word goal: "an aim or objective that you work toward with effort and determination." The Scriptures have a lot to say about what our goals should be as disciples of Jesus Christ - as the Body of Christ. As we desire - seek a new level of spiritual maturity - to grow spiritually in this "Year of Revival", let's set some "attainable spiritual goals."

(Note: All of our "attainable spiritual goals" have their foundation in the Word of God. These spiritual goals are suitable for every member of our local assembly).

{Matthew 6:33-34}: "But seek first God's kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

{Matthew 22:37-40}Jesus replied, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments."

{Romans 12:1-2}: Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is; His good, pleasing and perfect will.

{Philippians 2:14-15}Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.

{Philippians 3:10-11}: I want to know Christ, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

{Colossians 1:9-11}: ...that God will make you completely sure of what He wants by giving you all the wisdom and spiritual understanding you need; that this will help you live in a way that brings honor to God and pleases Him in every way; that your life will produce good works of every kind and that you will grow in your knowledge of God; that God will strengthen you with His own great power, so that you will be patient and not give up when troubles come.

{Titus 2:7-8}In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

{1 Peter 2:12}: Live such good lives among the pagans (unbelievers) that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good worksand glorify God on the day He visits us. (*The term "good works" encompasses every aspect of our thinking and conduct before God.)

Our "attainable spiritual goals" for 2022:

1) Be completely sure of what God wants.

2) Have all the wisdom and understanding that we need.

3) Live a life that honors and pleases God in every way.

4) Produce every kind of good fruit. (Be effective, productive, and godly in our spiritual growth; producing - bearing good fruit requires spiritual maturity.)

5) Grow in our knowledge of God.

6) Be strengthened by God's mighty power (God's Spirit), having endurance and patience.

7) Don't give up when trouble comes.

8) Do everything without complaining or arguing.

9) Live a godly life.

10) Be a bright light in a dark world.

11) Live and teach what is right; live a life that gives life to others.

12) Set an example by doing what is right, and good.

13) Speak the truth.

14) Let our actions and behavior glorify God.

15) Seek God's way of doing and being right.

16) Don't worry or be anxious about tomorrow.

17) Love God with all our heart, soul, and mind.

18) Love our neighbors the way we love ourselves.

19) Know Jesus Christ and the power that raised Him from the dead (the Holy Spirit).

20) Share in His suffering. (When we give our lives to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and the truth of His sacrificial life with others, we share in His suffering.)

21) Offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is our spiritual act of worship.

22) Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world.

23) Be transformed by having our minds renewed by the Word of God.

*In scripture, "good works" encompass every aspect of our thinking and conduct before God. "Good works" encompass not only caring for the poor, but behaving in a godly way toward our employers. "Good works" encompass not only giving to the work and ministry of the church, but truly loving every member of the church. "Good works" encompass not only having a bible, but seeking to understand, believe, and live out everything that's in the Bible that pertains to believers. There is a "signature conduct" that the world should see in every true believer. The world that seeks to criticize us should have its mouth stopped because it sees this kind of new life in us.
